I was very delighted to see another EP from TWIOOB. 2022's LP ...Sings The Hits, was a sleeper hit in my own opinion, and I think that Carrion Songs, Vol. 2 outdoes TWIOOB's last record. Carrion Songs, Vol. 2 delivers some truly down and dirty folk tunes that I think any fan of the singer/songwriter genre will enjoy. Think Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon, and Johnny Cash.
If that sounds like high praise, that's because it is. TWIOOB delivers a simple, direct, yet unrestrained performance often with only a guitar, harmonica, and a single backup singer, that is one of the only records from this year that make me want to click the loop button and just soak in the sound. Carrion Songs, Vol. 2 shows a lot of growth as a songwriter. We're hearing lyrics and guitar playing that are on par with one another and neither overpowering nor supportive, but blending together in a seamless, smooth EP that The Tempo categorically recommends. Check out You Know I'll Wait for some amazing Neil Young-esque guitar playing and lyrics that might make you cry if you're not over your ex.
I won't lie, The Wolf In Our Own Backyard likely isn't for everyone. The Rhode Island bummer folk artist is forging his own path in the business and those of you who prefer a more generic, contemporary sound may find Carrion Songs, Vol. 2 to be a bit too hard to pin down, too unusual to really enjoy, and that's ok! I don't' mean to say generic and contemporary is bad. Many of my favorite artists fall into this category by my own estimation. Once you listen, I think you will understand that this artist is hard to pin down.
Regardless, TWIOOB is taking old school folk and making it new and different, so regardless of your personal feelings on the genre, The Tempo gives this EP a 4/5 and we genuinely think you should give it a listen.
